In his role as Executive Vice-President, Mission, Research and Advocacy at the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS), Stuart Edmonds oversees the strategic priorities of research funding, advocacy and surveillance. The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS), Canada’s largest national charitable funder of research into all types of cancer. To ensure CCS-funded research has the greatest possible impact on people in Canada, Stuart is committed to developing systems that optimize how the organization engages patients, survivors and caregivers in the design and funding of its programs. In 2020, CCS invested $46.8 million in its diverse portfolio of research grants and awards, which included support for projects ranging from improving cancer prevention and early detection, to treatment, to survivorship, and much more. As an advocate for the health of people in Canada, CCS works with government to bring about healthy public policies that will help prevent cancer and improve the lives of people living with cancer and their caregivers.
